The Ski center of Mount Falakro is a relatively new ski area in the prefecture of Drama. It was founded in 1980 by the Mountaineering Association of Drama and it is now a great winter attraction in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Falakro is 46 km away from the city of Drama. Going up to the mountain, on your way to the ski center, and if you are lucky, you will see many wild horses! The ski resort has 20 runs, (total length of 17 km), located on a smooth surface and beautiful alpine slopes. The ski center base is at 1720 meters and reaches up to 2.232 m. It also has six lifts, including three baby lifts. The visitors can have a coffee or lunch or spend the night in the two chalets which are located in the base of the ski center. The third chalet, at 2110 meters, offers a panoramic view of the coast and its cafe is the highest cafe in the country! From here you can see “Ηionotrypa”, a deep cave in the snow; the base of the cave is covered with glaciers. Summer abseiling is allowed with a special suit.
