The castle of Naxos was built by the Venetians during the 13^th century. At the same place there used to be the ancient acropolis. The castle consists mainly of the walls of the medieval houses. It was not only a place of residence, but administrative, educational and religious centre of the Venetians. Nowadays, in the castle one can visit the archaeological museum and find shops, cafes and tavernas.
