Temple of Apollo Epikourios

Description

The Temple of Apollo Epikourios is one of the most important temples of antiquity and the only one which combines elements of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian style. It is dated around 420-400 BC and is believed to be work of Iktinos, one of the architects of the Parthenon. Sculptor of the frieze was probably Paionios, who also created the statue of Victory in Olympia. Part of the frieze has been transferred and exposed to the British Museum. Since 1986 the temple is included in the World Heritage Sites of UNESCO.
